Art Photo Salon Designhaus Mathildenhöhe
Group exhibition at the ‘ART PHOTO SALON’ featuring selected images from the ‘Broken Power’ series at the Designhaus Darmstadt Mathildenhöhe.
„Erik Dreyer’s colour photographs demonstrate that movement is also present in the other theme. Like stills from a film, they capture the dramatic climax of a destructive sequence: the vase, the protective container, topples and shatters, whilst the flowers first hover helplessly in the air before dancing amongst the shards like fakirs.“
Excerpt from the opening speech Dr. Held
Broken Power
The transience of beauty – for once not depicted as a process, but captured at the very moment of its destruction – holds a fascination through the preservation of that irretrievable moment which changes everything. There is only a single attempt to capture it; fractions of a second and a sure instinct determine whether the shot is a bull’s-eye or merely a pile of shards. By playing on the fragility of the flowers and the shattering glass, a tense and minimalist aesthetic emerges.
